KSD Wins Engine Of The Year Under 175 HP Award At Diesel Progress Summit 2022

Another important recognition for the KSD, recognized at the Diesel Progress Summit Awards as Engine of the Year in its category.

September 2022 – The KSD collects another major recognition, receiving the Engine of the year under 175 hp award at the Diesel Progress Summit 2022. The KSD had made it among the finalists shortlisted for the award, and last Tuesday night it was honored as the winner during the closing ceremony of the Summit organized by KHL and Diesel Progress magazine in Chicago, Illinois. The awards celebrated excellence and achievement in the field of engine and powertrain technology.

Among the judging criteria for the under 175-hp category for new diesel, natural gas or alternative fuel engines for on-highway or off-highway commercial vehicles, as well as for stationary and marine use, judges considered innovations relating to engine design, emissions, telemetry/connectivity, control technology, packaging, IoT systems, and ease of maintenance and ownership considerations.

“Our judging panel said the performance and power density of the KSD were very important factors in their decision, but what especially impressed them were the steps Kohler took to ensure the engines could be easily and effectively serviced and maintained in the field” said Mike Brezonick, Vice President of Editorial, Diesel Progress. “Thank you to all the of the companies and individuals who submitted nominations. What happens in these industries doesn’t get nearly enough recognition, we think, and you help us change that, at least in a modest way”.

“The Engine of the Year Award 2022 recognizes the outstanding work of the KSD team, committed to providing customers with the best engine in the 25 hp range. The KSD engine enables improved machine performances, productivity, responsiveness, and low total cost of ownership for any compact equipment. With the KSD engine, Kohler leads the market with electronic features and controls that, until today, were only available on larger engines.
This is a step change improvement from the existing generation of engines in the market. Our customers will value the level of engine integration, optimized machine performance, and long service intervals made possible by the KSD. We are proud of our new world-class
engine, designed for demanding global markets and customers!” commented Vincenzo Perrone, President of Kohler Engines.

This year the Summit, that covered off-highway machinery used in construction, agriculture, mining, forestry, and marine, as well as on-highway commercial vehicles, focused in particular on the dramatic changes in engines and powertrains that are being driven by emission regulations and advances in hybrid, electrification and other technologies. Kohler also had an opportunity to present its views on the future of internal combustion engines in this climate of change through the words of Vincenzo Perrone, keynote speaker during the day-long conference.

Perrone said: “we are all, as companies, facing the reality of the facts, and we are acting in the direction of a progressive decarbonization. New technologies are arriving on the scene today, such as hybrid, electric, hydrogen, fuel cells and alternative fuels. Powered by new efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the development of emerging technologies will play an increasingly important role in the future of the industry. Some of these could even replace ICE in some applications. However, this does not mean we have to set aside ICE
technology, it means having to transform it.”
